In this article, we will run through the process of upgrading vCloud Director 8.20 to 9.1.

  1. First of all you want to take your vCD cell to the maintenance mode , quisce the cell:
    cd /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/bin ./vmware-vcd-cell maintenance
    ./cell-management-tool -u administrator -p P@ssw0rd cell -status
    ./cell-management-tool -u administrator -p P@ssw0rd cell -quisce true
    ./cell-management-tool -u administrator -p P@ssword cell -maintenance true
  2. Copy the binaries of vcloud director 9.1 and execute permissions to it and run the script:
    chmod u+x vmware-vcloud-director-distribution-9.1.0-7905839.bin
    ./vmware-vcloud-director-distribution-9.1.0-7905839.bin
